Lily returns back home and becomes even lonelier, however, she receives the check of $10,000. She writes the check to Mr. Trenor to pay off her debt. Lily realizes how happy Nettie is because she has love, not money. Lonelyboy can give her this she realizes.

Lily seems to have visited Lonelyboy after all. However it seems it was a very melancholy visit, she saw her cowardly mistakes of turning him down when he wanted to give her love. He builds a fire for her and when he is not aware Lily throws B's letters into the fire.

Lily is put in a terrible position, either she rings the bell for servants where they will see what's happening and her reputation will be ruined. Or she lets herself be raped by Gus.
Lily is tired of hearing his complaining how he never spends anytime alone so she says that she's here alone with him now he can tell her whatever he wants. Gus comes to his senses and does not want alone time like this so he tells her to leave.
Last we see of Lily, she leaves the Trenors and a figure she recognizes sees her across the street and walks away. Who's this figure? Will this figure spread word that she was at the Trenors this late at night? Also Gus is a creep, just for the record.

Lily is asked to be a bridesmaid and Gus seems to think he can comment on how attractive Lily looks in public. He also seems to touch her which makes Lily very annoyed since he has no right to touch her if he only helped her with her investments.
Gerty makes and appearance and drops the news that Percy is interested in Evie Van Osburgh. Later Lily tries to find Percy until she hears the news that Percy has just ask Evie to marry him. Looks like Lily's plan has fallen through, but hey engaged isn't married...

She's in her own bit of financial trouble though, so she turns to Gus Trenor. Gus offers to help her invest her money in stocks to help her stay financially stable. House of Mirth Chapter 6

Gossip Girl here! Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite
Looks like Lily had agreed to accompany Lonelyboy on a walk. The hot gossip is is that Lily shares how she thinks success is merely what you can get out of life, such as landing a rich new husband. Where Lonelyboy views success as personal freedom, free from money or materials. A very observant and outsider view of the elite class if I do say so myself. Lily seems to be torn in what she wants. Will she choose a path with a rich man she's bored with but live in luxury? Or will she choose the man who she loves and live a "dingy" life?

House of Mirth Chapter 5

Lily seems to be a little sidetracked from her goal of being Percy's Americana. Since she chose not to attend church with Percy, maybe she was hoping he would miss her... With all of this happening, Mr. Dorset seems to be upset about how much B (Bertha) flirts with other men to Lily. Lily happens to notice that B is flirting with Lonelyboy, looks like Mr. Dorset is right after all. In the mean time let's hope Lily still has her eye on the prize and does not become too distracted from sparking up interest to Percy Gryce.

House of Mirth Chapter 4

Gossip Girl here! Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite.
New gossip in town! Carrie Fisher seems to be getting comfortable with Gus Trenor. Not surprising since Carrie is known to get money from other rich women's husbands. She also has been divorced twice, so obviously her reputation is ruined. Next piece of gossip is that Jack Stepney and Gwen Van Osburgh are engaged! However, Lily seems to find Gwen a very boring wife to be engaged to. Lily would rather be Percy's trophy wife, or in better words, Percy's Americana. Let's hope that Percy wants Lily to be his Americana.

She must live up to those social expectations. Too bad her beauty is already fading, with those wrinkles around her mouth. Poor Lily is already losing her only chance at wealth, that is, her beauty. Since her father went bankrupt, her family had no money and her mother only saw hope to wealth through Lily's face. Quite a bit of pressure put on Lily at such a young age.

House of Mirth Chapter 2

Gossip Girl here! Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite.
Is Percy Gryce Lily's new love interest?
Rumor has it that Lily and Percy were seen together riding the train having a riveting conversation of the Americana book collection. They enjoyed themselves up until Bertha Dorset joins and interrupts their conversation. A little rude if I do say so myself. For a short nickname we'll call Bertha, 'B'
We all know where this is heading, B, of course being the flirt she is, created a competition to see who could get more of Percy's attention. The difference here is Lily has her looks and a sweeter personality, but B is mean and can easily get what she wants.
Interesting enough, Bertha offered Lily a cigarette and Lily refused. Is this just a goody two shoes act Lily is showing for Percy? He is a mama's boy and will only marry a woman who his mother approves of. Although does Lily really want to marry this dull and boring man? I think Lily is searching for a man who just has money. And once her search is over, she can sit back and live a life of luxury.

House of Mirth Chapter 1 Gossip

Gossip Girl here! Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite.
Looks like Lily Bart found herself a lonely boy, that is Mr. Lawrence Selden, but since he secludes himself form this social class he's practically a lonely boy. The gossip is that Lily Bart was seen walking out of Selden's apartment last night where she encountered Mr. Rosedale. She clearly made an excuse saying she was getting "a dress fitted". We all know that's not true. Sparks are flying between Selden and Lily? Is Lily going to marry a secluded man from this elite class? Will she choose to marry a man who does not produce as much money as other suitors? Will she ever get married since she's, dare I say, 29 years old!? Looks like Lily needs to hurry up and find herself a man soon or else she'll end up like Selden's cousin. That is Gerty, who actually works and has her own apartment. What woman would ever want to be independent and not dependent on her husband?!
