Heartbreaking news, it seems that Lily has overdosed from her sleeping pills and was found dead in her bed. Gerty was the first to visit and see her and find her body.
Poor Selden left early morning to ask Lily to marry him but when he arrives, he finds Gerty where she brings him the news. A doctor arrives and tells them the sleeping pills is what killed her.
